If you're anything like me, the thought of a family road trip can be as exciting as it is nerve-wracking. However, with a bit of preparation and planning, you'll find that taking your kids on vacation doesn't have to be so daunting.

Charades
This is a classic game that lets you use your creativity and imagination to act out different words or phrases. You can make this more challenging by having one person try to guess the answer before going into another turn.
Scavenger hunt
This is a really great way of keeping everyone's minds sharp. One person makes up clues for items around them, and the other person has to figure out where those items are.
You can also make this more challenging by adding time limits, or by limiting people's ability to use any form of technology (phone, laptop, etc.) to find the items.
I spy
This is a good game for younger kids who might get bored easily when on long trips. One player says "I spy with my little eye something beginning with ____" and the other player has to guess what it is.
This game can be really fun because you get to travel around without actually moving.
20 Questions
This is a good one for families who are looking for some more intellectual games. One person asks "yes or no questions, and the other player gets 20 tries to guess what it is. For example, a question might be "Am I an animal?" and the answer could be either yes or no.
Mystery Card Game
This game is played in teams with the first person drawing a card and reading it aloud to the other team. The cards contain statements like "I have hair" or "I'm wearing pants." The opposing team must guess whether they are true or false, then switch sides.
